Merita Mullen – Director of Synchronized Skating

Merita Mullen has been The Colonials Head Coach since 1988 and was named Director of Synchronized Skating for The Colonial Figure Skating Club in 2000. Under her direction, coaching, and creative influence, The Colonials have consistently qualified for and competed in the U.S. Synchronized Team Skating Championships, having won medals in the Juvenile, Intermediate, and Junior divisions. The Intermediates have stood on the U.S. Championship podium for sixteen consecutive years, and the Junior team has repeatedly earned a Team USA envelope assignment, competing in ten International championships. The Juniors have won medals for U.S. Figure Skating in Nottingham, England, Louviers, France, and during repeat trips to Milan, Italy and Neuchatel, Switzerland.

In addition to coaching The Colonials, Merita is the Head Coach of the Boston College Eagles Synchronized Skating Team. The Eagles have consistently qualified for the U.S. Synchronized Team Skating Championships.

Merita is the current Collegiate Committee National Vice Chair in charge of Synchronized Skating for U.S. Figure Skating, and is a balloted member of the Competitions Committee. She does extensive volunteer work for U.S. Figure Skating and the Professional Skaters Association while representing The Colonials and the Colonial Figure Skating Club. She mentors developmental synchronized skating coaches, and travels the country teaching and coaching in seminars that feature synchronized skating.

Merita earned her Bachelors degree from The American University, is married and has two daughters. She is an active volunteer and supportive cheerleader in her daughter’s theatre pursuits.
